So maybe you´re wondering from my last blog what the title meant...Michelle La Chiquita Mariposita. Or maybe you´re not but I´m going to tell you anyway. That is Wilma´s name for me. It´s means the little butterfly. =) I was working with her on Monday and she randomly started calling me Chiquita Mariposita. And now, that´s my name. =) I enjoy working with Wilma. She is an incredible woman. Such a hard worker. Has the most beautiful heart. She is kind, loving, giving, humble, patient, a servant. I´m learning more about the person I want to be by just being around her. Her home is always open to anyone and everyone. People say she is the Mother Theresa of Peru. Yep, they´re right! =)
Anyway, things have been good. I have been so busy though. Monday was a little discouraging mainly because of my lack of Spanish knowledge. It´s hard not being able to understand everything that´s going on. But oh well, I guess you just go on and continue praying for more understanding. I´m thankful for my time with Wilma yesterday though. We spent the whole day together and was actually able to understand more and have really good conversation with her! God knew exactly what I needed yesterday. He is so good. =) We went all over the place...up the mountain where her feeding program is (we don´t feed the kids during the week though...just on Saturdays). Then we came back to find we were locked out of her house! Haha, we had a good laugh then decided to head on to Mira Flores, which is in the southern part of Lima, to meet up with the group from Alaska. On our way home, I sat next to this guy who was about 20 years old and had his Bible open to Psalms. I proceeded to tell him I liked the Psalms as well and then we started talking about God and that we were both Christians and sharing our favorite Bible verses and so on. Haha, it was good and also encouraging!
This morning was super busy. We went in to the central part of Lima to buy materials. There are a group of mothers up in the mountains that are learning to make bags. So we had to get materials for them so they could continue making their bags. Their plan is to sell the bags they make and earn some money from it! It´s really incredible and they are so gifted! After we took the materials too the woman (by the way, these trips to the center of Lima and too the mountains take quite a while...it´s a least 20 minutes or more from Wilma´s house to both places so you can imagine we spend a lot of time in taxis and buses)!
Then we came home and fixed lunch together...fish and yuka and tomatoes and rice and fresh orange juice! So good!! Or muy delicious...that´s what Wilma likes to say. I think it´s her favorite word. =) I´m definitely thankful for my time here and enjoying just living the life of a Peruvian. =) Anyway, I need to go. I´m going to help Wilma again with that picture booklet. Lots to get done and definitely not enough hours in the day! Thanks again for all of your prayers. I´ll continue to keep you updated when I can! Love you all!!!
